Title:          Accessible Wales puts Disability on the web for Cynon Valley

Accessible Wales is in the process of planning the launch for the long awaited landmark Accessible Companies Index.  This website will be officially launched on 6th August 2008 in the Glancynon Inn Hirwaun.

The website will be aimed at highlighting positive and negative disability issues.  It will initially focus on the Cynon Valley area however, in time it is planned to spread throughout south Wales.

Its main aim however will be to host an index of companies that are accessible to people with disabilities.  These companies will be listed with a clear and concise list of images stating their level of accessibility.

In 2007 a local newspaper reported that a lady using a wheelchair went out on a night out with family in town in Mountain Ash.  She could only get in one pub in the town centre because of steps and a lack of appropriate access.  She ended up being stuck outside a pub and eventually had to go home.  Had this website been open then she may have been able to find out where she could visit during the night out.

Accessible Wales Managing Director Richard Jones, 27 says the following:

“This website will hopefully be something that will unite the community and benefit everyone, not only those in business but most importantly people with disabilities.  As with all of the services Accessible Wales carries out it will not just be aimed at wheelchair users but to people with hearing impairment, learning difficulties, visual impairment etc.

Companies are not charged to have their name appear on this index and will be given a window sticker/poster to say they are on the website.

More information on the website and the launch will be released by Friday 27th June 2008.  Accessible Wales are looking for stories and information on disability issues in the Cynon Valley.  We are looking for positive and negatives that people want publicised – whether its events or issues let us know.
